European Food Science Day 2009
At the European Food Science Day leading scientists presented their latest results in the field of food quality, food safety and nutrition.
Policy makers and food industry are currently faced with a range of complex food related issues. With the dioxin scandal, the melamine case and alarms on child obesity, confidence and trust in safe food has decreased among food consumers.
While EU-funded research indeed addresses these issues, food and health scientists lack a forum from which they can reach out to Europe’s policy makers, consumers and the food industry. This kind of platform is necessary to provide European citizens, via authorities and the media, with reliable food advice.
European Food Science Day is a collective effort of ten research networks within CommNet. Together we represent more than 3000 European researchers. The goal with European Food Science Day is to further spread this important scientific knowledge to a wider audience.
